Orthodontics

Clear aligners like Invisalign® can comfortably straighten your teeth without brackets or wires, but proper care is essential to keep them clean, odour-free and working as they should.
The good news? Some simple steps can help keep your aligners fresh and clean.

Daily Habits for Keeping Aligners Clean

Your aligners sit snugly against your teeth for most of the day, so maintaining good hygiene is essential. Taking care of them helps prevent staining, bad breath and a build-up of bacteria.

Here’s how to care for them day-to-day:

  • Remove your aligners before eating or drinking anything other than water.
  • Rinse your aligners every time you take them out.
  • Clean them gently with a soft toothbrush and lukewarm water (not hot).
  • Use clear, unscented soap if needed; avoid toothpaste, which can be abrasive.
  • Soak aligners regularly in a recommended cleaning solution.

Never leave aligners wrapped in a napkin because they can easily be lost or damaged. Always store them in their case when not in use.

Other Tips for Success During Aligner Treatment

Looking after your aligners is only part of the picture; your oral hygiene is also important. For best results:

  • Brush and floss after every meal before reinserting aligners.
  • Keep regular check-up appointments to monitor progress.
  • Follow our instructions for wear time (usually 20–22 hours per day).

If an aligner becomes cracked or warped, please notify our clinic immediately. A damaged aligner can affect your progress.
