Orthodontics

Crooked or misaligned teeth affect more than just what you see when you look in the mirror. Your smile is a big part of who you are, so when it doesn’t look or feel as good as you’d like, your self-confidence can suffer. Orthodontic concerns can also make it more difficult to speak correctly, chew your food and maintain good dental hygiene.

That’s why addressing orthodontic concerns is an important part of what we do at Best St. Dental. We offer solutions for all ages and degrees of misalignment, providing expert care every step of the way.

What Orthodontics Can Help Correct

The goal of orthodontic treatment is to provide you with a functional, comfortable and healthy smile.

The most common orthodontic concerns that braces and clear aligners can correct include:

  • Crowded teeth
  • Overlapping teeth
  • Gapped teeth
  • Overbites
  • Underbites
  • Crossbites
  • Open bites
  • Misaligned jaws

The Advantages of Clear Aligner Therapy

Choosing clear aligners, such as Invisalign® or SureSmile®, can offer several advantages over traditional braces. Some of the biggest benefits to straightening your teeth with clear aligners include the following:
Discreet Appearance
Clear aligners are nearly invisible, making them a fantastic option if braces would make you feel self-conscious about the way you look.
No Food Restrictions
Because you can remove your aligners to eat, no foods are off-limits. You can enjoy all your favourite foods without worrying about damage.
Comfortable Fit
Your aligners are customised to fit snugly over your teeth, and they have smooth edges to minimise any irritation while you’re wearing them.

Frequently Asked Questions

Clear aligners like Invisalign® can comfortably straighten your teeth without brackets or wires, but proper care is essential to keep them clean, odour-free and working as they should.
The good news? Some simple steps can help keep your aligners fresh and clean.

Daily Habits for Keeping Aligners Clean

Your aligners sit snugly against your teeth for most of the day, so maintaining good hygiene is essential. Taking care of them helps prevent staining, bad breath and a build-up of bacteria.

Here’s how to care for them day-to-day:

  • Remove your aligners before eating or drinking anything other than water.
  • Rinse your aligners every time you take them out.
  • Clean them gently with a soft toothbrush and lukewarm water (not hot).
  • Use clear, unscented soap if needed; avoid toothpaste, which can be abrasive.
  • Soak aligners regularly in a recommended cleaning solution.

Never leave aligners wrapped in a napkin because they can easily be lost or damaged. Always store them in their case when not in use.

Other Tips for Success During Aligner Treatment

Looking after your aligners is only part of the picture; your oral hygiene is also important. For best results:

  • Brush and floss after every meal before reinserting aligners.
  • Keep regular check-up appointments to monitor progress.
  • Follow our instructions for wear time (usually 20–22 hours per day).

If an aligner becomes cracked or warped, please notify our clinic immediately. A damaged aligner can affect your progress.

How Traditional and Clear Braces Work

Traditional braces are a reliable way to precisely move your teeth; a system of brackets and wires applies gentle, continuous pressure until your treatment is complete.

We offer two types of fixed braces:

  • Traditional metal braces — These braces are strong and effective and work well for complex orthodontic cases. They are made from stainless steel.
  • Clear braces — For a more discreet appearance, clear braces use ceramic brackets that match your tooth colour. They work the same as traditional braces, but they’re not as noticeable.

Clear Aligners: Invisalign® and SureSmile®

For teens and adults with mild to moderate orthodontic concerns, we offer both Invisalign® and SureSmile® clear aligners. Both of these trusted systems use customised trays to gently shift your teeth into the proper position.

Clear aligners are discreet and comfortable, and you can remove them to eat, brush and floss, making it easier to care for your teeth and gums during treatment.

We use the latest 3-D digital scans to plan your treatment. All you have to do is wear your aligners for 20-22 hours each day and switch to a new set every one to two weeks as directed by our dental team.
